Our Pet's Skin

Are you aware of the fact that the skin is a self-healing barrier that supports the immune system?

Skin is the largest eliminative organ of the body!

If liver, kidneys and lungs do not fulfill their tasks sufficiently, the body needs help from the skin. The skin plays an important role in the elimination of toxins and can assist the kidneys in their work.

Over 70% of what is put on the skin is absorbed into the body and our dog’s skin actually has less layers protecting their vital organs than we humans do!

Anything put on the skin (and coat/hair) is absorbed directly into their body. in fact, IT ONLY TAKES 26 SECONDS FOR ANYTHING PUT ON THE SKIN TO ENTER INTO THE BLOOD STREAM and then into the vital organs and of course the cells !

Something not many of us think about is that our dog’s are always barefoot and of course, absorbing even more toxins through the pads of their feet. Their feet are on our floors and carpets where we may have used toxic chemicals to clean and/or “deodorize” on a regular basis. We also tend to forget that they are absorbing toxins through their feet when they are on grass that may have been treated to kill weeds and pests or to fertilize.

A pet’s skin pH is about 7.5 which is very close to “Neutral” where a human’s skin is about 5.5, (pure water has a pH of 7.0). Any pH less than 7 is acidic. This means also means that a dog’s skin is significantly more alkaline than human skin.

All this to say that it is more important than you might think to be very mindful of what your dog’s skin is exposed to and what role it has in keeping the body detoxified.

It is just as important to keep toxic chemical based products and products that contain synthetic, so called fragrances off of and away from the skin – (shampoo, deodorizers, so-called medications) as it is to keep toxins out of what you put into the pet’s body – food, medication, oral flea and tick medications, etc.

This is why it is important to KNOW what is in the shampoo you use on your dog or cat and how often you bathe your pets.

I have found that many pet parents have been instructed to bathe they dogs more frequently if they have skin issues AND to use a chemical based, so called “medicated” shampoo! No! Not good....
